To all Valley Scouts, Scouters, and Families:

The Valley District, would like to invite you to attend the 2010 Valley District Camporee. This year’s event will be held at Camp Dobbins on the Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch in Elbert, Colorado. The theme of this event is “Scottish Highlands Games”.

Troops will camp out Friday and Saturday night. When arriving or departing all units MUST check in and out at Headquarters. Scouts and Scouters attending for the day will arrive on Saturday morning and spend the day, including campfire, if they so choose. All day visitors MUST check in and out at Headquarters.

On Saturday, Scouts in patrols will participate in events based on the theme “Scottish Highlands Games”. The events are based on the original Scottish Highland games. These competitions were used as a non lethal form of competition between Scottish Clans. Each event was designed after everyday tasks the members of the clans would perform. These competitions will be scored based on the patrols’ overall performance. Each patrol should be approximately 6 scouts to insure that all scouts have the opportunity to participate in each event. The patrol method is a team effort, so patrols that work together will excel. The culminating event for this camporee will be a patrol obstacle course. This obstacle course will utilize traditional scout skills. In order for a patrol to earn an award they MUST turn in their COMPLETED patrol card. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Please share this information with your scouts and adults BEFORE THE EVENT. You may download additional copies of this Leader’s Guide from the Valley District website at www.valleyscouters.org or by contacting the Camporee Chairmen. There will only be a limited number of paper packets produced.

Make your plans and come show your best at this year’s “Valley District Highland Games” Camporee. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Scouts and Scouters who have worked so hard to create this event. If you have any questions about this event, or would like to help out please contact the following people:
